Bluetooth technology has changed the way people use office and other communication devices. With Bluetooth, you can reduce the number of wires used to connect one piece of equipment to another, create wireless environments in your car, office, and home, and you can use some of these devices without having to activate them by hand.

In order to take advantage of Bluetooth technology, equipment must be Bluetooth compatible, meaning they contain the chips necessary to receive and send short-wave signals. Common devices that can be used include:

  • Cell phones

  • iPods and MP3 players

  • printers and fax machines

  • laptops

Older model cell phones and other equipment may not have Bluetooth. You can purchase Bluetooth cards to create a wireless environment.

WHAT IS BLUETOOTH?

Bluetooth is a short-wave frequency that has a 30 foot span. Even though this frequency is short, it is perfect for car and office use. Many new devices have Bluetooth capabilities even if you don’t plan on using them.

BLUETOOTH SECURITY

Bluetooth frequencies are made secure through encryption and password entry. Much like other forms of wireless technology, Bluetooth is very secure and is used in many offices and other professional environments that want to save space by connecting all office devices without having to use wires.

USES FOR BLUETOOTH

Bluetooth was first used to connect all computers in an office to printers without having to rely on wires. Other uses include:

  • file transfer between laptops, cameras, PDA’s and other equipment to central computers

  • make use of wireless equipment such as a mouse, keyboard, headsets, and remote controls

  • create hands-free environment in the car

  • synchronization of PDA’s and other mobile devices to desktop calendars

Bluetooth technology can help keep your office, car, and other areas organized by limiting the number of wires you will need. As long as all devices are Bluetooth compatible, they can be used together.

WHAT IS HANDS-FREE TECHNOLOGY?

Thanks to Bluetooth capabilities, you can now create a virtually hands-free environment in your car that allows you to make and receive phone calls without having to touch your cell phone.

Hands-free technology has helped improve driver safety by allowing people to focus on the road instead of trying to answer the phone or dial while driving.

Hands-free technology is available in many new car models, or you can have it installed in your current vehicle. You can also buy a hands-free rear view mirror device that works with most cell phones and other Bluetooth devices.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BLUETOOTH AND HANDS-FREE TECHNOLOGY

Bluetooth technology has paved the way for hands-free technology in that the ability to connect to different devices without the use of wires. This has made it possible for people to connect their cell phones to a secondary device that will answer, dial, and reject calls with the push of a button or using voice activated tags.

Because many regions are passing laws that are making it more difficult for drivers to talk while driving, hands-free technology has played a large part in the safety of drivers.
